Visualizing Cultural Dissent in Modernism, 1880-1945. Interrelations of modernism and politics in a period of rapid social and technological change, rise of mass social movements, and political reaction on left and right. Development of new media in the form of prints and photography reflecting these changes and a variety of social movements and political positions by artists exploring a range of subjects, media, and exhibition venues from large-scale paintings in the annual state-sponsored salons to political satire in the press. One course.
