Etruscan Cities

ARTHIST 561.01

Focuses on concept and definition of city in Etruscan society and its socio-political role in territorial organization. Main topics include pre-urban and urban development of Etruscan society, the first settlements, space and rituals, formation and development of Etruscan City States, cities and landscapes, cultural models between Greeks and Etruscans, colonies and emporia, transformations and changes in Roman times. Primary evidence for all the above will be visualization of material remains from antiquity. Instructor: Forte
