The minimum requirement for all students enrolled in the Ph.D. program is at least two foreign languages.
Language abilities will be tested by departmental language exams. For traditional foreign languages, these exams shall consist of two parts:
- translation of a passage of art historical writing with the use of a dictionary; and
- the translation of a passage of art historical writing without the use of a dictionary. The student will be expected to demonstrate a sound grasp of the language as well as a familiarity with the basic art historical terminology in that language.
