Examines how art and technology of photography have changed the way we study and understand historical past, with focus on three important Asian contexts: China, India, and Japan. Analyzes arrival of photography in these places as a historical event, and the photographers and how their work was viewed. Evaluates ways in which technology was embraced, to what purposes was the art form put in terms of cultural representation, commercial development, industrialization, and nation building.
