Ivana Bago is an art historian, writer and curator born in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, based in Zagreb since 1997, and currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Art, Art History and Visual Studies, Duke University. She is the co-founder of DeLVe | Institute for Duration, Location and Variables, dedicated to research and publishing in the field of contemporary art and theory. Her research is primarily situated in the field of contemporary art history, where she explores artistic and exhibition practices of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the post-1989 “discoveries” of regional histories of art and their role in the global expansion of the paradigm of contemporary art. Her dissertation research, "Post-Yugoslav Generation: Art, History, and Theory at the Unidentified Grave of the Yugoslav Twentieth Century," re-examines the history of Yugoslav art and aesthetics, and the engagements of contemporary artists, scholars and curators with the aesthetic and political legacies of the "Yugoslav twentieth century." She has lectured in numerous museum and academic venues, and her writings on topics such as conceptual art, art and feminism, performance art, (post)Yugoslav art, exhibition history, have been published widely, including the peer-reviewed journals Journal of Urban History, GAM - Graz Architecture Magazine, and ArtMargins, where she also serves as member of the editorial board.
