Overview

Caitlin Burke is a MA student in Computational Media. Prior to her arrival at Duke, she worked in the media and technology industry for companies like Google and HBO, managing teams of engineers and UX designers. She also founded an organization for creative technologists, and co-directed a salon space for new media art. She received her BA from Columbia College, Columbia University in Art History.

At Duke, Caitlin is researching the connections between digital and physical space, the materiality of technical objects, and the history of interface design. She is interested, more broadly, in the theoretical and historical underpinnings of media objects, and material culture. Her current thesis work examines Facebook as a discursive space through an investigation of architectural spaces of the public sphere and an analysis of the 2016 United States election data.

Outside of class, Caitlin enjoys playing with her dog Sadie, running Duke's East Campus trail, and hiking in Eno Park.
