Disability Studies Meets Design: A Critical Engagement

Introduction to the field of critical disability studies and concurrent engagement with the discourse and practices related to design and design thinking. Sustained engagement with the ethics and politics of disability justice in the context of ableism, access, medicalization, as well as ideologies of normativity in relation to embodiment, sensation, and cognition. Critical assessment of the ethics and practices of major design paradigms in relation to disability justice, including universal, participatory, speculative, and adversarial design as well as the broader problem-solution orientation dominant in many fields of engineering and design.
