Arts+ & Doc+ Final Showcase

The Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) and Duke Arts celebrated the conclusion of their 2026 Arts+ and Doc+ summer programs on June 25 with a final showcase highlighting six weeks of collaborative, community-focused creative work by students.
The event began with presentations in the CDS Auditorium, where students shared the goals, processes and outcomes of their projects. An open house followed across CDS buildings, featuring gallery exhibitions, interactive installations and other artistic displays. Attendees also enjoyed a catered reception provided by Med Deli.
Over the course of the six-week summer programs, Arts+ and Doc+ students worked in small interdisciplinary teams alongside local arts organizations, community partners and industry professionals to complete eight projects addressing a range of societal issues. Drawing on newly developed skills in documentary production, archival research, data visualization, podcasting and oral history, as well as craft techniques including stained glass, quilting and printmaking, students created work designed to support community partners and strengthen the arts ecosystem at Duke and throughout Durham.
Students from a wide variety of academic disciplines participated in the programs, collaborating closely with Duke faculty and staff, professional artists and community organizations to transform ambitious ideas into meaningful creative projects. The showcase offered an opportunity for participants to share the results of their work and celebrate the impact of the partnerships they developed throughout the summer.
